Plan to embargo Wii Remotes tossed
Hillcrest Laboratories' dubious legal move to stop the import of Wii Remotes is no more.
Following the August settlement of its complaint with the U.S. International Trade Commission, Hillcrest Laboratories has agreed to drop its patent lawsuit against Nintendo over the Wii Remote, reports The Daily Record.
In a joint filing Wednesday with Nintendo Japan and Nintendo of America, Hillcrest asked a judge in Greenbelt to close the U.S. District Court case.
Hillcrest started their lambast last August, alleging Nintendo's game console infringed Hillcrest's 'Freespace' patent, a technology that uses wrist movements to control action on the computer or television screen. In addition to money damages, the electronics company sought to embargo Wii Remotes, in a mind-boggling, implausible move.
Details of the settlements were not disclosed, and lawyers for the companies declined to comment.
