NintenDaan's - Episode 1
We'd like to welcome NintenDaan, a new writer already known by many Nintendo fans around the globe. In this new weekly feature, NintenDaan will inform us on all the interesting videos released during the past week. This week we start off with NintenDaan's Episode 1: The Week of Questionable Nintendo Channel content...
Let me introduce myself: My name is Daan Koopman aka "NintenDaan" on various outlets and I'm trying to bring interesting video content to the table about the world of Nintendo.
To start my weekly rambling, we'll talk this week about Nintendo Channels and what they tried to deliver in terms of content the past week.
The updated Nintendo Channel In the begin of the week, we've seen some major changes to the Nintendo Channel in North America. People who've seen the recent Japanese changes know what I'm talking about: A brand new design with the options to rate DS Games, putting games in a favorite section and of course be able to watch trailers in High Quality. The interface is a lot more user friendly, navigation is a lot more smooth and an added sidebar makes everything more organized! How does it look? You see it below!
Introducing... Nintendo Week With a new Nintendo Channel, the video structure will change. After all, now that the Digest Video is gone: how will you appeal to the audience that visits the Channel? That is where the new feature 'Nintendo Week' comes in!
In this feature Nintendo takes on various Nintendo related news, games and products. Besides that, the feature briefly shows all the new video releases and even shows an interview with a 3rd party developer. To me, it sounds like a great show to introduce people to the world of Nintendo and makes them aware of what is coming up ahead. Some people beg to differ and say it's too casual for its own good. Do you agree? I'll decide when I see the second Episode this Monday!
More Pokon Heart Gold & Soul Silver On Wednesday, we had a rather poor Japanese update. Pokon Heart Gold & Soul Silver were already released and the promotion for Endless Ocean 2 was already in full force. Still, Nintendo managed to release a small special in which a girl talks about her retro experiences in Pokon and begins to discover the newest entry in the franchise. There isn't much to say about, since this is something Japan regularly does. The video looks very natural in my opinion and you see somebody that is enjoying the game very much. What's your opinion?
Ninty News... Now what? As last, we have a new feature the UK has released last Friday. The 'Ninty News' feature tries to bring the latest Nintendo news, the biggest releases and some rambling in between. This one is a hard one to describe and personally I didn't feel entertained by anything Iain Lee said. Some jokes appear as if he's mocking the game in question or making fun of it in one way or another. I don't know if I'm supposed to be part of the target audience, but maybe you feel the same way? Let us know!
Conclusion So to recap: This week Nintendo Channels are trying to bring new audiences in to try the newest and latest products. In Japan this approach clearly works, but in the West we've still got some hurdles to take before we are at that point. Furthermore, Nintendo Week still needs some improvements, while Ninty News doesn't seem that universal and more trying to bring a celebrity in. Will Nintendo succeed to iron out these (minor) problems in the near future? Only time will tell.
This is Daan, signing out! (You can view more Nintendo Channel related and various gameplay related videos on NintenDaan's YouTube channel)
