WII $50 price-cut for Wii stateside?

A leaked memo discloses Nintendo's plans to drop below the $200 mark for the Holiday season. Is this Nintendo's plan to remain winner of the Console Wars?

Nintendo has not officially declared a $50 price cut for the Wii - but a leaked circular that disclaims a price cut for Wii to $199 has revealed, perhaps, a new tactic for Nintendo. In the worst economic crisis in a century, Nintendo wants to invoke buying of the 'King' system by tempering the household cash crunch.

With three years out and no price drop, the company will likely still hold a profit for Wii at the lower price point, predict analysts. If not, losses on each system sold will be undoubtedly negligible. Price drops by rival PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 force this price cut, because the 'King of Consoles' might be dethroned by the other system's considerable assets, especially by the resurgence of the PlayStation 3.

"Microsoft and Sony's plans to enter the motion-sensor control market will start in 2010, leaving one last holiday season that Nintendo controls the market with its Wii Remote," reports Punch Jump news.
