Sony 'Throw their toys out of the pram' over the DSi
Given that Sony's PSP was predicted to be the clear winner in the Handheld Consoles race it's clearly been a bit of a disappointment to them that the 'best looking handheld in the world' has hardly set the gaming community alight. In fact the PSP's release schedule has been shrinking year on year since its launch with a handful of first party games being amongst this
With that in mind you'd imagine that Sony would be doing it's level best to temp more developer to the powerful, and lets face it, great little gaming system. Unfortunately, they've taken a slightly different tact with this misinformed rant, from the company's Director of Marketing, John Koller:
'If Nintendo is really committed to reaching a broader, more diverse audience of gamers beyond the "kids" market that they've always engaged, there isn't much new with the DSi to support that. Significant gamer demographic groups are being ignored, and there continues to be limited opportunities for games from external publishers to do well on the DSi. Compare that with the PSP platform, where we have many blockbuster franchises from our publishing partners launching this year, representing a wide variety of genres and targeting diverse demographics. Games such as Rock Band Unplugged from MTV Games, Assassin's Creed from Ubisoft, Dissidia Final Fantasy from Square Enix, and Hannah Montana from Disney demonstrate the commitment that publishers have to the PSP. From our own first-party studios, we're launching unique versions of LittleBigPlanet and MotorStorm, and we're also planning a steady stream of downloadable games - both new titles and PSone classics - to add to the content that PSP owners can already purchase wirelessly through PlayStation Store.'

You get the feeling he may regret saying this.
lol. Love his claims at decent game support for the PSP. Rock Band. Well DS has Guitar Hero in an almost pure form whereas that won't play anything like Rock Band. Assassin's Creed. The DS has a title in this series so seems they were beat there. Sure there's Hannah Montana titles on the DS as well and really, they may be getting Dissidia Final Fantasy but I doubt it'll match to the likes of Dragon Quest IX when it gets a release. As for first party support, ok LittleBigPlanet is a big deal but really, we're getting another Zelda. 'Nuff said really.
Sony calls Nintendo a 'kids market' while simultaneously touting a 'Hannah Montana' game as evidence of PSP superiority. That's laughable.
