Curious PS2 titles top Japan weeklies, Wii 50 million sold
Powerful Pro Baseball 2009 and Amagami, a dating simulator, for the PS2 debuted at number 2 and 3 respectively. Still, their combined sales could not exceed the new Super Robot Wars title for the DS as top dog of the week, with numbers fresh from Japan retail stats god Media Create. Meanwhile, Nintendo announced worldwide sales of 50 million Wii systems since its launch in 2006.
The Super Robot franchise has been around since 1991, always well received, especially by the Japanese audience. Its smash opening and DSi sales help prop Nintendo after a two week slump in weeklies. The PS2 continues to prove itself strong and capable, up against all the next-gen franchise titles.
For March 16 through March 22:
Software
- Super Robot Taisen K : DS - 117,388
- Powerful Pro Baseball 2009 : PS2 - 50,324
- Amagami : PS2 - 42,490
- Mario & Luigi RPG 3 : DS - 39,183
- Dynasty Warriors Z : PS3 - 35,545
- DSi : 71,233
- PSP : 65,765
- PS3 : 25,435
Nintendo announced Thursday global sales of the Wii topped 50 million since it launched in late 2006. 50 percent of the total sales of the Wii were in the United States and Canada, with Europe accounting for about 40 percent and Japan taking much of the rest, reports TMC newswire.
Nintendo stock remained steady throughout, up 1 percent at week's close.
