Nintendo lost 4.7 percent first close, after brokerages recommended investors sell the company's shares, reports Bloomberg news. Satoru Kikuchi, an analyst at Deutsche Bank AG, rated Nintendo stock "sell," projecting a decline in profit in the next fiscal year. With never-ending sales of Wii in North America, Nintendo closed down 1 percent in a false-start week.
Long-time ex-Nintendo head Howard Phillips repositions himself as studio director at Chair Entertainment Group. A highly visible figure at Nintendo during the 1980's, Phillips became responsible for the company's North American development. He is also known for the Nintendo Power 'Hester & Nester' comic series.
The Associated Press reports that Japanese are becoming less 'finicky and brand-conscious' during the recession, buying electronics that are cheaper and usually foreign. The press release mentions a man who bought a $49 DVD player called the 'Wee', a 'clear echo of Wii' and a 'dubious naming strategy' by its manufacture Maxer, a small Japanese company.
