Activision's profit and pander
Activision's yearend profit topped analyst's projections as their CEO calls for the Big 3 to lower console prices to help out game publishers.
Activision Blizzard Inc., the world's largest videogame maker, reported fourth-quarter sales and profit that exceeded analysts' estimates and issued a 2009 forecast that fell short of projections. The company stock fell, reports Bloomberg news.
Activision now faces the same pressures as other companies in the videogame industry that have fired workers and closed studios to cut costs.
Activision CEO Bobby Kotick called on console makers Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo to lower their console prices:
"The hardware companies are going to need to reconsider their pricing. Given the difficult economy, a lower-priced PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Wii would be a big benefit to consumption."
