Japanese Wii Owners Gain More Perks in 2009
While we in the U.S. and Europe must be content with WiiWare, Wii owners in Japan will soon have video-on-demand and a food ordering service.
Nintendo will start offering videos through their Wii console, the latest feature for its Japanese audience. Nintendo said it would develop original content via the internet and is considering videos for free and charge, reports news service AFP.
Nintendo teamed with Japan's big name advertising firm Dentsu Inc. to develop the service, which will begin sometime in 2009, with the possibility of seeing the light of day in other regions if well received.
"Nintendo and Dentsu shall use the environment surrounding the Wii so that living rooms with Wii-ready TVs would become more of a fun area for communication among families and friends," the firms said in a joint statement.
Kotaku, citing Japanese site IT media, also announced a food ordering service for the Wii to launch sometime this spring. The new channel will utilize the Demae-can.com online food ordering service. Wii owners will be able to order a wide variety of food, including pizza, sushi, Chinese food, Japanese food, Western food, and curry.
