Interview with Digital Leisure Inc
We love games and we love to talk about games. This week we talk to Paul Gold from Digital Leisure Inc on their recently released WiiWare title The Incredible Maze and future plans.
DS-x2.com: Only recently did you, Digital Leisure, release The Incredible Maze for WiiWare, for those unfamiliar with the title could you please explain what the title is about?
Paul: 'The Incredible Maze' is a fun maze game designed in the same style as the old wooden labyrinth games you might remember playing as a child. There are a series of different styled mazes where you can navigate a marble ball around the board using your WiiRemote to balance the maze board. Included with the game is also a 'Challenge' mode where you collect gems throughout the maze and even a 'Time Attack' mode to see how fast you can get through without falling! The title is only 500 WiiPoints ($5.00) download from the Wii Shop Channel on Nintendo's WiiWare service.
DS-x2.com: With the title only having seen release this past Monday, within North America, do you know how well sales and reception for the title have been?
Paul: The title is being received very well by the casual games market. People love games that can be picked up, played for a little while and then put down without getting involved in a heavy storyline. The game is currently sitting in the Top 10 for sales on Wii Shop Channel in North America and is fairing just as well in the European markets.
DS-x2.com: Within the official press release there was a blurb about a series of exclusive WiiWare titles, could you please elaborate on that and possibly give us details on some of Digital Leisure's planned WiiWare titles?
Paul: We have many games planned for WiiWare over the next year. Late November we'll be releasing Sudoku Challenge! allowing players the chance to play this worldwide phenomenon on their Wii! We'll also be making some more announcements on future games around the time of that release so stay tuned!
DS-x2.com: During mid-2007 Dragon's Lair was announced for the Nintendo DS to be released in the first quarter of 2008 but yet nothing came of it, is the game still in development or has it been canceled?
Paul: We can't comment on the DS version of Dragon's Lair as Conspiracy Entertainment is the licensee for the DS version.
DS-x2.com: any chances we could see the title on WiiWare later then?
Paul: As for Dragon's Lair/Mad Dog McCree on WiiWare, due to the size limitations of the service it wouldn't be a good fit due to the heavy video content. However, it would be great to see these titles as a disc based in the future and those are certainly possibilities.
DS-x2.com: Compared to other platforms how was your experience with developing games for WiiWare?
Paul: It's been a very positive experience! We're pleased with the tools Nintendo provides, however, there are always new things to learn. We are looking forward to bringing exciting games to the Nintendo Wii console in the future.
DS-x2.com: Digital Leisure has acquired many licenses for several video/FMV based titles, are there any plans to develop your own original video/FMV titles?
Paul: This is something that we've talked about in the past and there is always the possibility of bringing new FMV content to the gaming world
DS-x2.com would like to thank Paul Gold for answering our questions and wish Digital Leisure well on their future products.

I use to be a big fan of the American Laser Games, especially Mad Dog McGree 1 & 2
