Nintendo To Charge Wi-Fi Services?
Our colleagues from Wired come with harsh news: Nintendo will soon introduce a pay-to-play service for some games.
According to the article featured on Wired, during the Game Developers Conference Nintendo has announced that the company is planning the "Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection Pay And Play" service next to the "Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection" service we all know (and love).
As Wired continues, Pay-And-Play games will feature a red icon on the boxart that reads "Pay And Play" (instead of the original blue Wi-Fi logo).
At the time of writing, we were unable to confirm the claims but if true, we expect an official press release any time soon.

It's true. Aoyomo announced it in his speech at GDC. it seems they are looking to expand upon their online services with possible implementations for voice chat and other things. This seems to be the main reason behind the announcement. It's also on a game by game basis so a fee will have to be paid for each and every game you have that is on the Pay & Play network.
That would suck a lot. The major difference that separate Nintendo from its compatitor is that Nintendo doesn't try to charge players every chance they got. But now it seems Nintendo is going down the same path.
