NDS One Million Pokémon Copies Sold

One million copies of the latest additions to the Pokon universe got sold within five days. That's a whole lot of critters...

One of the video game industry's most celebrated franchises is officially hotter than ever. Within just five days of availability, more than 1 million copies of Pokon Diamond and Pokon Pearl for the Nintendo DS have sold in the United States since Sunday's launch; a faster rate than any previous Pokon games since the franchise's U.S. introduction, almost a decade ago. To date, more than 155 million copies of Pokon games have sold worldwide.

Pokon Diamond and Pokon Pearl are poised to become two of the top-selling games of 2007 in the United States. More than one half million people pre-ordered the games before launch. Additionally, thousands of people attended the kickoff launch event in New York, and demand for the games continues to be off the charts. These latest versions of Pokon games were introduced in Japan on Sept. 28, 2006, and have already been purchased by more than 5 million video gamers there.

Later this year, these two titles will also help expand the Pokon universe for the first time to Wii. Diamond and Pearl owners will be able to use their DS hardware units as controllers for Pokon Battle Revolution (launching June 25), the first Pokon game available for Wii. Players also will be able to export characters to the Wii game.

  • Good lord, that's really good sales record. Now I am more encouraged to get Battle Revolution now that I have Pearl.

  • I don't like the anime at all; episodes are repetitive. But if you ignore what's showing on TV and only view this game as a separate title and a game on its own, Diamond and Pearl are actually pretty darn decent RPG's. I need some RPG to carry me over until Blue Dragon comes out in August and Lost Odyssey in Fall. Pokemon would do just fine.

  • Don't get me wrong, Pokemon is always a great RPG, but I'm kind of tired of them, so I probably won't be getting either of them. Hope everyone else has fun with them :-)

  • You know I dont play pokemon like that the only reason I picked it up was because I heard it was going to be wi-fi I only preordered mine because I knew that it would be sold out in a few days. But to tell you the truth this is the best pokemon game ever the only thing that stays things are similar but not the same. Even the pokemon contest are fun to participate in
