NDS Square-Enix Announces Dragon Quest IX

Square-Enix held a press conference and announced something totally unexpected: Dragon Quest IX for the Nintendo DS. Update And two real screenshots added for visual impact.

Industry giant Square-Enix held a press conference in Tokyo to announce the next iteration of their Dragon Quest series. As many gamers did not expect, the company announced the game for the Nintendo DS instead of the logical PS3 or Wii platforms.

Development of the ninth installment of Dragon Quest, which will be the first network-based title from the series (yes, Wi-Fi confirmed), is performed at Level 5 studios, the same company which is also behind the upcoming Nintendo DS title Professor Layton and the Mystery Village.

Square-Enix is aiming for a Japanese release in 2007, with a big chance of the game leaving the country after that.

  • They are crazy, why they didn't develop this on a home console? There are so many Dragon Quest past episodes that could be converted on portable consoles...
