NDS Children of Mana - Information Overload

Want some more RPG lovin'? Then step no further than then brand new episode in the 'Mana' series, Children of Mana.

In the latest issue of the Japanese gaming publication, Famitsu, Square-Enix has revealed new details regarding their upcoming Nintendo DS Action RPG Children of Mana.

The game is set to take place at the center of the world, at the island of Illuja. This special island contains the last remaining Mana Tree in the world. For those unfamiliar, Mana Tree's have been present in each of the Mana games.

As the game begins, the island of Illuja is hit by an unknown natural disaster. Once things calm down, three children, Frick, Tumble, and Pop gather at the Mana Tree to discover that they are the only three survivors.

Frick, a young jubilant boy is no stranger to danger. Several years before the events of the game take place, his life was saved by a nomadic swordsman. This charitable act proves to be very influential on Frick, as he proceeds to train to become a swordsman himself.

As young traveling circus girl, Tumble has learned the complicated arts of dance and tumbling. While staying in Illuja, both her brother and parents are killed in the disaster. The game's other main character, Pop, is a native to the island. After he was born, Pop's mother died due to childbirth complications. Living with his father, Pop has grown up to become an impetuous child yearning for adventure.

The Famitsu article has confirmed that Children of Mana will retain the traditional Action RPG elements of the previous iterations in the series. As such, the upcoming DS title will also offer a myriad of weapons for the characters to use. Known weapons so far are Swords, Bows, and Flails with many more expected in the final version of the game.

Square-Enix plans on releasing the title sometime during the winter of 2006 for Japan. Children of Mana is said to be nearly 60 percent complete and will offer a principal adventure mode lasting between 25 and 30 hours.

Additionally, the forthcoming title will include several side quests to prolong the game's story mode. DS-x2 will keep you covered!

  • wow, frick... they really need to choose another name for the main protagonist. I also don't like how there is a "too" kiddy feel to the story. "HI! My name is Jumpy because I jump alot and its my special ability!!! WEEE!!!" you know what i mean?
