Cerulean Dreams (Nintendo DS) - Description

Game Ratings

We're sorry, but we don't have any reviews on this game yet.

The story begins in a world where people have never seen the earth of the planet they live on. Its people live in cities floating high in the sky using an ancient technology they don't understand. Their world is ravaged by a war that has been going on for longer than many care to remember, between the two major sky-powers - the Deladian Kingdom and the Xamin Empire. With clashes between the two fleets growing ever more viscious, and each side getting close to nowhere as territories are gained, lost, and regained over and over, there doesn't seem to be an end in sight. The world itself consists of floating islands separated by a sea of thick, tumultuous clouds called the Cloud Sea, or "Second layer" as there is a more "normal" layer of clouds in the sky above their world. This Second Layer holds much superstition in the world, as people believe it to be the gateway to death. This theory has evolved as downed pilots or damaged ships frequently crash below the Second Layer, never to be seen again. The layer is considered impassable, and all those who have tried to go below it are either destroyed and never seen again or turn back describing massive electrical storms and destructive winds within the cloud layer. These days, it is taboo to even consider what is beyond this massive, world-spanning barrier. When Gene Hakins, friend and squad leader of Deladian pilots Kayle Sethan and Crystal Shelia crashes below the Second Layer during a major Deladian offensive, Kayle disobeys orders and embarks on a mission to penetrate the Second Layer and find his friend. Crystal follows him, and the two are also followed by a Xamin spy intent on having his revenge against the two, and finding out what the Deladians are up to in or under the Cloud Sea. Instead, what they all find is that there is a world on the ground below the Second Layer, and a major civilization exists there, which knows about their cloud cities and is planning a major attack against them in order to steal the ancient technology that keeps them afloat. Now the young pilots must work together to delay the attack, and bring their two countries together to combat this threat, or they will all be doomed.

As mentioned above, Cerulean Dreams is primarily a mix of action RPG and top-down shooter gameplay. You control a pilot flying a ship through various combat stages, using special weapons and abilities, as well as the assistance of your teammates to accomplish various objectives. In addiition, you control your pilot as you explore towns, cities, and other areas on foot - talking to locals, purchasing upgrades, and obtaining quests and other new missions. Combat stages are similar to traditional top-down shooters, although objectives and other areas can be completed and unlocked through the creative use of available weapons and technology, and many stages can be revisited in order to complete missed paths and find hidden valuables.

Features:

  • Flight-combat stages will use 3D models for main ship sprites, enemy sprites, and some obstacle/terrain items.
  • All HUD information will be displayed on the touch sensitive screen, and all standard gameplay will be displayed on the other.
  • The menus on the touch screen can be scrolled through and accessed while the game is going, or while it is paused, giving you more "quick and active" control over the game as you play
  • New functions will be added that allow you to better control your ships functionality. Touch sensitivity will be utilized, and will add a lot more depth to gameplay.
  • Multiplayer co-op.
