Nintendo MP3 Player Revealed
Key details and price point announced.
At Games Convention there was a surprise: In a leaflet the long lost Nintendo MP3 Player appeared. But neither a releasedate nor other details were revealed.
One week later, this has changed. The unit, which looks similar to the Japan-only Play-Yan, will be available for only EUR 29.99, the releasedate is not set in stones, but it looks to be October 6th, together with the Nintendo DS Browser.
Key features: - For Nintendo DS (to be inserted into slot 2) and Game Boy Advance hardware - To store music you need SD cards. Up to 2 GB cards are supported, this equals to 500 songs (best sound quality) - Choose between different skins (including one with Mario) - The interface shows all important information - The unit itself features another headphone port
The Nintendo MP3 Player was originally planned to be released shortly after Game Boy micro, but as the sales weren't as high as Nintendo had hoped, they delayed the accessory. It is not known why the video play function is not included, as the Play-Yan features this function, it is also unknown whether there's a special mode for the Nintendo DS.

hmmmm ?i doubt this will b ne gd but who knows
It looks good.
I have a play-yan, and I love it. I can understand why they removed the video part--it's not especially intuitive. But I don't know if it's worth it for JUST an MP3 player..
Only 30 Euro? I think i will buy it, so. I am full of SD cards so i'm ready for use. The only bad thing is that i can't use a 4 GB SD card, but 2 GB of music should be enough. The video capabilities are a good thing, but speaking frankly, i do not need to see a movie everywhere, and a little screen as the one on the DS don't seem the best for a movie. The PSP is the choice for playing movies on a pocket device (but i think it is better to see a movie on a good television or in a cinema).
I don't really want to have to get any SD cards... I've only got one and that's for my camera. Don't really think I'm going to get this.
When you say "it looks to be October 6th, together with the Nintendo DS Browser", do you mean for release in Japan, America or Europe? I personally am quite interested in such a device, as I've been looking for an MP3 Player, but I don't wanna be carrying a ton of hardware around: Phone, DS Lite, MP3 Player, etc, etc, etc...
Well, you could guess that the price in Euro means that it's for Europe ;)
i had an mp3 for my dslite, its not really good for mp3s couse the size, but gbamicro shuold be fine. i have a proper mp3 now anyway, though this will proably be good
It's worth it if it releases in america at only 30 US dollars. I'm not sure if I'll buy it though, I've "tricked out" my DS to play ogg files and video. ogg > MP3 On the other hand, I have some SD cards just sittting around... I want to see this thing in action.
Im impressed to even hear about such a thing. Im Looking forward to it coming out in the states.
Dude, that looks awesome. I think I might get it.
If I were in "mr.Nintendo", I would made the console capable of reading SD cards in the same slot of DS games, and with a player built-in in the firmware like on the PSP. But it wasn't done, so we are in need of these players.
so, about $45 canadain huh? I'll proboubly get it. My curent mp3 player is crap. It's suposed to hold 8 hours worth of songs but it's full and I only have like 1 1/2 hours on it:P Then again its ancient (3 years old:D)
hmm. @NPC: how'd you make your DS do THAT?
What!!! What happened to video? Oh screw this...I was only going to buy it for video support.
If they added the plug-in for AVI and RMVB format, I would pay $70 for it.
how u put pic by your name cuz iv got not aclue plz some 1 tell me
