  Pauline is from Donkey Kong Arcade, long before the Game & Watch. Pauline wasn't Mario girlfriend (if he has ever had one) but a girl kidnapped by Donkey Kong and bringed on the top of a palace under construcion while Mario was working there (at time he wasn't an hydraulic but a carpenter).
