NDS Settlers Invading Nintendo DS

Totally unexpected, Ubisoft and Blue Byte announce The Settlers for the Nintendo DS. First facts and screenshots inside.

Ubisoft and Blue Byte have announced the development of The Settlers. In the strategy game known from PC, players take control of a population stranded in a new world, trying to take control of it.

As easy as this may sound, The Settlers features a huge economic system for you to fully understand in order to build your civilization and army. For example, to recruit soldiers you'll need barracks. Unfortunately, barracks do not grow on trees and thus you'll have to mine quarry's for stone, chop trees for lumber and get a few settlers to build the barracks. After that, soldiers need food (bread comes from flour, which comes from grain and thus you'll need a farm, windmill and bakery) and arms (swords are made of steel and thus you'll need an iron mine, coal mine, smeltery and armory).

A few details on the game:The Settlers on the Nintendo DS will feature two campaigns, the Roman-campaign and the World-campaign. Of course, the game will also feature a free-play mode in which you can take on the CPU using every race available (Romans, Vikings, Nubians and Asians).30 different jobs and 6 different types of soldiers will be available in the game. The game features 7 continents consisting out of different landtypes (forests, lava, ice, swamps)The game is controlled using the stylusThe top and bottom screens can be swapped in-game. This way you can use your stylus to navigate using the map, or select and give order to your settlers. Using the stylus its also possible to zoom in on your settlers.

The game is currently set for a release in Europe during Q4 2006.

  • Nice game, really enjoyed part I, II and III on the PC :) Looks a lot like II.

  • Looks like a DS version of alpha centauri. I'm not sure that works too great on a handheld. AC makes AW looks fast-paced.

  • Looks nice suprisingly. Make it online - not that i'll buy it. Should add sales though.

  • I remembered this game on PC. I didn't build enough roads and my people died of starvation.

  • is this real time or a strategy game?

    darkshadow61, 30-11--0001 at 00:00
  • @darkshadow: How about: Both? ;) Its realtime, but very slow and easy going.. and its mostly about economic.. a war will always be won by the player with the best economical-system. I love this kind of game ^_^ @Dennis: It doesnt only look alot loke Settlers 2, it IS exactly the game.. I still play it from time to time and there is absolutely no difference between this screens and the PC-Version. I alwayes hoped for a DS-Port :D
