NDS Nintendo DS European Launch Details

Nintendo is having a press conference in Paris, announcing the launch details for the Nintendo DS in Europe. Update 1 Mario Kart DS multiplay... Update 2 Nintendo VIP packs... Update 3 Regular NDS Packaging... Update 4 VIP Pack available for... Nintendo VIP's...

At the moment, we haven't seen any official confirmation in the form of press releases, but here are the details from the conference: the Nintendo DS will launch on March 11th for a price of ?149.99, just like we reported earlier this week. The European packs will also include the Metroid Prime Hunters: First Hunt demo.

Games will be priced between ?29.99 and ?39.99, which is considerably higher than the price for DS in the US and Japan. Importing games from online retailers like Lik-Sang will thus be as popular as ever.

As for the launch games, the following games have been confirmed: Asphalt GTMr. Driller : Drill SpiritsPokon DashPolarium (Chokkan Hitofude)Project Rub (Feel the Magic XY/XX)Rayman DSRobotsSpider-Man 2SprungSuper Mario 64 DSTiger WoodsThe URBZWario Ware Touched!Zoo Keeper

Update 1 Mario Kart DS multiplay... According to one of the journalists currently attending the DS conference, Mario Kart DS will feature up to 8 players in multiplay. Mario Kart DS is also planned for a release in 2005.

Update 2 Nintendo VIP packs... Apparantly, Nintendo of Europe will release 650.000 Nintendo DS units in Europe. However, there will also be a limited number of Nintendo DS VIP Packs. These packs consist of a Nintendo DS unit, Super Mario 64 DS, a Metroid Prime Hunters: First Hunt demo, a WarioWare: Touched! demo and a t-shirt. These packs will not be available for sale in stores. Every Nintendo distributor will determine for themselves how to spread the packs (divide amongst press, available for Nintendo VIP members, etc).

A sketch of the T-Shirt can be found here.

Update 3 Regular NDS Packaging... Well, it was inevitable. The regular Nintendo DS pack will look similar to the VIP box, with the only difference being the bottom-left of the front of the box. Only the Metroid Prime Hunters: First Hunt demo is included (and PictoChat built in of course), which resulted into this box:

Update 4 VIP Pack available for... Nintendo VIP's... The limited edition Nintendo DS VIP pack, as we showed earlier today, is available for consumers (that's you) through the Nintendo VIP program. For 1000 stars and ?189.99, the pack will be delivered at your doorstep as soon as the Nintendo DS is officially launched in Europe. Hurry up, because every country only received a fixed amout of VIP packs, and they're already 'selling' quite fast...

More news as it comes...

  • Nice boxes, and I'd love the VIP package. Nothing that spectacular though. I like the chaotic way of E3 more, Dennis. At least then there's live streams of it.
