Nintendo Investor Meeting Information
During the Investor Meeting today Iwata revealed interesting pieces of information relating to the Wii U, 3DS and General Nintendo goodness.
Information relating to Nintendo Network trickled through the meeting. The community feature from Mario Kart 7 will not be shafted in future titles, with Nintendo indicating that communities will return in future titles. Miyamoto during the Investor Meeting said that; "Network has to have a totally new concept to be different." With Nintendo taking the time to reveal that the Wii U will have user accounts for individual users rather than specifically tied to a system. Nintendo will also be introducing DLC at some point in their services, not ditching the idea completely of first party DLC and Iwata indicated that the company now sees DLC as a life extender for older titles and used Mario as an example on how the game could continue to see sales after the initial release.
Item billing may also appear on Nintendo platforms in the future, however Nintendo doesn't seem to at this point be keen on doing it themselves. Nintendo will not stop third parties if they wish to do item billing on their own games however.
Nintendo announced that there are 200 3DS titles in development across them and their partners. The company also indicated that social sharing is a key feature to their success, with Nintendo revealing Swapnote was a very successful application on the 3DS.
Not much more information was reveled, with the company expecting to share more information especially with the Wii U closer to E3. They did however reveal that the Wii U has Near Field Communication built into the system. NFC could be used for data transmission, credit cards or other features.
Nintendo revealed there continuing to expand their third party partnerships. Iwata specifically mentioned that the new partnerships were previously not considered between to the two companies.
Finally Nintendo announced their plans to release the 3DS this year in Asian countries (such as China, Singapore etc.)
