DSi's First 3D Game!
You've probably noticed that 2010 is officially the year of 3D with TV and film companies desperate to get the first commercially viable 3D television into your homes. It appears that Nintendo have beaten them to it and, in Japan at least, DSi Owners are gaming in the third dimension. We have some footage, of the game in action, inside and we can't wait to get our hands on it.
Ok, so it's not a true 3D game but Rittai Kakushi e Attakoreda uses the DSi's camera to track the motion of your eyes and transfer the information to the two screens. This results in a game where the perspective alters as you look around the gaming area.
The game itself appears to be a hidden object puzzler with a difference as some objects will only be visible when you tilt the screen in the right direction. If all this seems a bit confusing, just watch the footage and all will be revealed.

Using the camera to determine pictorial difference for non-peripheral motion tracking, beautiful technique.
Looks great :)
It's quite a bazar concept but if you where going to use it for something which isn't built for it. AKA nothing bar this original concept- I think it would only work in stuff like platformers (something in vain of Paper Mario) or Mystery games (where you have the extra angles to find stuff)
I can't wait to play this. It looks amazing.
That's cool. Very simple idea but really well done. It's interesting to see that there is still innovation coming through the DS, albeit with the new upgraded hardware. Certainly something to watch but still not something to make me want to buy a DSi yet.
Trinest: I can also see puzzle games, hidden-object games and monkeyball-like titles taking advantage of this technique.
^ funny you should say monkeyball-like games as there was a video of a tech demo released a few weeks ago using this exact technique for a ball rolling game where the movement of the console, detected by the camera, moved the in game stages.
Really? Didn't see that one. Got a link?
Took awhile to find it but here it is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eM0SLbZAe9c&feature=player_embedded Certainly interesting so would be nice to see someone pick it up and use it.
We also featured it here: http://ds-x2.com/news/Engine%2BSoftware%2BTilt%2Bthe%2BDS%2C13577,13577
Motion control without using gyration or light tracking is amazing, they can now make the next Wario Ware.
@Dennis: Was talking more about the style then the technology :P
Ah... Excuse me for being blunt then ;) (by the way, we should do this more often: discuss a lot. That's what the comments section is for)
