Japan: Weekly Sales Data & Controversy
Last week included some surprises with a whacky array of games, and one that's a little too close for comfort to another 365 days centered Cutesville.
Software Sales
1. Hoshi no Kirby: Ultra Super Deluxe on DS selling 97,449 units
2. Samurai Dou 3 on PS3 selling 71,914 units
3. Tongari Bouchi To Mahou No 365 (one translation: Pointy Hat and Magic 365
Days) on DS selling 71,914 units
4. Fushigi no Dungeon 2: Fūrai no Shiren (one translation: Demon Dungeon 2:
Castle in the Desert) on DS selling 45,327 units
5. Resistance 2 on PS3 selling 33,584 units
One controversy here is the lack of Wii titles in the Top 10. And then there's Tongari Bouchi To Mahou's controversial parity to Animal Crossing. It uses an identical Wide World camera/scrolling system (that makes that game world appear round) and the graphics are eerily similar. Comment posters on Japanese videogame news sites are complaining that Tongari Boushi looks "identical to Animal Crossing." Still, seven of the top ten titles were for the Nintendo DS. Pokon Platinum and GTA IV are the sore losers this week in 10th and 42nd place respectively.
Hardware Sales
1. DSi selling 85,327 units
2. PSP selling 38,153 units
3. Wii selling 26,787 units
While handheld sales slumped by 20% from last week, Wii sales were nearly identical week for week. The Wii increased weekly sales by about 2000 consoles.

I don't think it should be seen as controversial that there be no Wii title in the Top 10.
It's not controversial. I mean, with Animal Crossing what should Nintendo have expected if they are going to change nothing from game to game?
Konami put out Tongari Bouchi To Mahou No 365, and many Japanese VG Sites have gone as far as to say Konami should be "ashamed" of themselves.
